A Very Special Opportunity

On Friday we had an opportunity to visit and tour the brand new Temple in Gila Valley. This really was a special occasion. it took us almost 3 hours to get there and a lot of arguing in the car, but it was all worth it. As a Mormon, our meeting houses or in other words, Chapels, where we meet on Sunday and have special activities during the week, are open to the public and all are welcome. A Temple is different. its not open to the public. Its used for special ordinances like sealings (marriage) and such. To enter, you need a special recommend that you receive from your Bishop. When a temple is completed, prior to the dedication, they hold an 'Open House" for about 2 weeks, so that anyone and everyone may enter the Temple. and see it all. Then it is dedicated as a House of the Lord and from that point on, a recommend is required. We were able to bring the Children and Uncle Mikey and walk through the Temple as a family. what a tremendous blessing it was. Of course Jo and I got kicked out half way through, but what we did see was wonderful. When I asked the kids their favorite part? Jimmy said "The Disco Ball Room!" It took a minute for me to realize he meant the Celestial Room. It has a giant Crystal chandelier. :)
If you ever have the opportunity to go to a Temple Open House I say do it! Member or Not. Life's an adventure always, right?
